A Break

Okay, listen, I know. I am notorious for heartlessly abandoning projects.

But I HAD to take a break from Teroldego.

So I've been painting just a wee bit on my fancy new iPad.

It's not much, but it's at least kept me from eating my unfinished shawl.

Though tomorrow is a new month. Which means a new WIP to finish.

Suddenly, Teroldego looks much more appealing...

*Star Trek: The Next Generation Theme Plays*

Captain's Log: Stardate 96840.98

We seem to be stuck in an anomaly.

Progress on the Teroldego Mission had been progressing smoothly. We had reached the second sector with only minor incidents, though it all had leveled out.

It was when we started progressing into the Gold Fields in the second sector that we ran into problems.

We seem to be stuck in a time vortex. The Fields are going on evermore, ceaseless. Just back and forth, first in a swirling midnight, then deepest gold.

Down.
And back.

Down.
And back.

Morale is starting to deteriorate. I fear a mutiny.

We may have to reassign duties to pacify the crew.

For now, we shall continue forward with the mission, and hope that we discover an end to this nightmare.

Bliss, Twist, Pissed... So List

So, a day... A SINGLE DAY... after posting about how great my new phone was, I picked it up off the desk AND THE SCREEN WAS CRACKED!

I hadn't dropped it, tossed it... indeed, I was being purposefully careful and gentle with it since our cases hadn't come in yet. Needless to say, I was pissed.

And through a bunch of bullshit, we have to pay a bunch of money to have it fixed.

So a comprehensive blog post isn't really something I can do today.

List post it is.

1. First and foremost, I want to take a second to acknowledge the conversation happening about racism in the knitting community. I apologize for my lateness in saying anything about this on here.

This article from Vox gives a good overview of the situation.

Please take a few minutes to read it and understand what's going on.

I'm working on a longer, more in-depth blog post about the whole situation, including links to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Other People of Color) artisans who have been generous enough with their time and energy to help us white yarn crafters as we start to acknowledge and work on unpacking our own racial biases. I'll also have links to resources to help in that regard.

As you can imagine, it takes A LOT of emotional and mental energy when you really start digging into biases and racism that you didn't realize you were participating in. So it's taking longer than I like, and I apologize for that.

But I'll leave you with this statement: I refuse to be part of the "silent majority" that some of the worst perpetrators of the racism shown in the knitting community claim I am a part of. I will work on unpacking my own biases, do my best to listen to BIPOC when , apologize and change my behavior when I stumble. I will also do my best to amplify and support the voices and businesses of BIPOC yarn crafters.

2. I got some amazing squish mail today from Knitcraft & Knittery including this indigo test skein...

And these GORGEOUS skeins of her fingering weight in a fun AF colorway name, Drunk Mosquitoes.

These might actually be contenders for my ceremony shawl because...

3. I'm changing shawl patterns... again.

I KNOW, OKAY! I'M A TERRIBLE PERSON WHO CAN'T EVER MAKE A DECISION!

But to be fair, I also JUST found my dress, and it was not I expected I would end up with.

There are some minor changes I'm planning on making, but I am SO in love with it.

But you can see how having my super large cape-like shawl is going to cover up and overwhelm the dress.

So I've decided on a Boo Knits pattern instead. Still gorgeous, full of beads, but a better compliment to the dress.

But that means that I'm going to have to decide on what yarn I want to use.

Joy.

4. I'm still cranking away on Teroldego. I'm through the colorwork section and am on the striped section before the big lace section.

I was hoping to maybe have it done in time for the next pj party, but I don't think that's going to happen. Especially because my wrists have been bothering me, so I've been trying to give them a break.

5. I GOT MY BULBASAUR FUNKOS!

I want like 80 more, but John says no. :(

6. In addition to the new phones we got recently, we were able to get an iPad tacked onto our plan for just a couple more bucks a month, so I've been having fun playing with Procreate and the Apple Pencil.

7. I'm particularly proud of how this bujo spread came out.

8. It was hair color time for us. Saturday, John went to a purple with more blue undertones.

As for me, mermaid is officially out.

And witch is in.

I am SO in love with how it came out. I can't wait to see how it fades.

And in case you were wondering what I look like as a blonde...

9. And here's a picture of Oj to finish out the post.

If you'll excuse me, I have about a billion different green yarns to look through.

Until next time.

Upgrades

For the past two months, my beloved phone has been acting up. Some of it I could handle. The battery barely lasting, the random disconnects from the wifi, the dysfunctioning apps, sure. But when the camera decided that it no longer wanted to focus on anything... well, that was more than I could handle.

So, it was time for an upgrade.

I ended up getting another LG, the V40 this time. Mostly because it offered me FIVE CAMERAS to play with.

Yes, FIVE of them.

I haven't had much chance to mess around with them, but I have at least a little taste of just how much better my pictures of my crafts will end up being on here.

This is the start of my Teroldego shawl and I am just THRILLED that the colors actually came out how they look in person!

The old camera (when it wasn't being a tempermental beast) absolutely ruined the colors.

You can see how washed out it is, and this is even with me trying to adjust things.

I AM SO DANG HAPPY!

I was having fun scampering about the house, taking all sorts of random little snapshots.

Saying 'aloe to my plant babies...

And their protectors...

Prickles was looking particularly handsome.

I even got some of my not-so-living plant babies.

And look at my dragon boi!

I even got a couple of the furry babes in all their glory.

This was a little bit of deliciousness that I had made for myself and it came out looking like something from a food blog.

And I'll leave you with this glorious scene.

Socks and Shores

Unlike last month, this month's unfinished project was cranked out at an unbelievable speed.

I ended up finishing up the lavender socks I started last September. I had one sock fully done, and had originally started the second one right after, but I realized that I had screwed up the color repeat. And I was NOT about to have fraternal socks, damnit. So they got shoved into time out until a few days ago.

I was actually waffling a bit between finishing the socks or finishing Mystic Star, but laziness won out.

So I pulled them out, and got right to work.

And immediately had to rip everything out and start over AGAIN.

There was a knot in the yarn in a spot that would likely rub against my toe.

So after much swearing and cursing and frogging, I ACTUALLY got started. And I just started flying through it.

It took me just two days to finish the second sock.

And now...

I've got TWO PAIRS OF SOCKS JUST FOR MEEEEE!

And as a bonus treat, we took these babies on the road with us to Cleveland on Saturday.

We went up to hang out with Mikayla at River Colors Studio, my yarn shop away from home. Her and Steph had so kindly gotten me a gift card for my birthday (it totally wasn't an excuse for us to go yarn shopping..... nope, not at all...) and I had a hankering for some yarn for a new project.

We'll get to that later, though.

First, I have to give an ENORMOUS thanks to the ladies at River Colors for having the patience to deal with this.

We were going to the bakery next door for lunch, so I asked if they would mind winding my purchases while we ate.

When John and I came back half an hour later, we saw that mess and I felt SO BAD!

Whoever tied the skein at the place where it was manufactured didn't do it right and it just turned into a giant mess as soon as the ladies tried to wind it.

It took over two hours and three different people working to untangle and hand wind it into a ball.

My other two skeins took like 3 minutes to do.

So, thanks again, you intrepid, wonderful women, for sorting that mess out.

After that, John and I checked out this little place called Rocky River Park which was a 5 minute drive from the yarn shop. It was just a wee little place, but you could walk right down on the little beach there beside Lake Erie.

There was so much driftwood washed up on the shore, it was incredible. And not little pieces. We're talking huge logs and branches. And in some cases what looked like the whole damn tree.

It was the perfect spot to grab a few (and I do mean only a few. It was freezing!) pictures of my socks.

I hadn't brought a coat because it was a little warmer that day, but that was a huge mistake. I nearly froze to death.

But just for you, dear readers, I suffered through it.

Really though, I was completely enthralled with the whole place. I had never actually gotten to be that close to the lake.

We even took a few pictures of Mermaid Lair because the scenery was so beautiful. (What? I HAD to wear a shawl to the yarn shop!)

I also brought home a few little treasures I found.

Yarn, friends, time with John, good food, and a trip to the lake... it was a pretty spectacular day.

Oh? You want to see the yarn I bought?

Now, the blue in the bottom is from the stash, but that bright pink and gold came home with me.

I know, they're not my normal colors. But I was absolutely blown away by a shawl I saw on Instagram by Pepperminta and the inspiration bug bit hard. (Go show them some love!)

I'll actually be doing the same Teroldego Shawl pattern as in the picture, assuming that I can get this icord edge to work out.

Anyway, there was another ball we ended up buying while waiting for the Great Untangling, but I don't have a handy pic of that. And I have other things to do, like show off how good my makeup game was over the weekend.

Guess I'll sign off for now and go play with my new pretties.
